FREE FROM MARKET: INTERNATIONAL GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

In the last few years the international market of free from products has recorded significant growth rates and more and more companies are approaching this sector. Gluten Free Expo & Lactose Free Expo, organized by Exmedia Srl, a merge of Italian Exhibition Group are the leading international fairs dedicated to gluten and lactose free products and market. The fairs have been studying the market for years to understand and anticipate trends.

According to Euromonitor International, in the last few years the free from market has achieved remarkable result: the turnover of global market is equal to 1, 875.3 million euro. About food intolerance: gluten free is 26% and lactose free is 66% compared to other types of intolerance.

The size of the market in USA, Australia, Russia and Europe is between 47 million euros and 442 million euro. Since 2011 the new emerging market of United Arab Emirates has seen an exponential growth.

Focusing on Europe, the countries with the highest turnover are Italy, UK, Germany, France. As a matter of fact, in, in the last years, European business of free from products has increase of 5,1% and obtained a sales volume of 2.022 million euro. The gluten free sector has recorded a revenue of 320 million euro and an increase of 27%. Also lactose free sector has recorded a turnover of 393 million euro and an increase of 18%.

According to the Observatory on the Italian gluten free market made every year by Gluten Free Expo, 49,5% of Italian companies produce gluten free products while 50% have both a traditional and a gluten free line.

It should highlight that the phenomenon of gluten free products is increasingly attracting the large-scale distribution and thanks to that they increase the number of private label products. For example, private labels represents 11% in pasta sector.

Moreover, it is important to highlight that almost 13% of packaged large-scale distribution products have in the label the claim “gluten free” or “lactose free”.

In this growing international view, every year Gluten Free Expo and Lactose Free Expo manage to catalyse the public’s interest which is becoming more numerous every year, especially professional and international becoming an unmissable event.
